I have a 50 Johnson with a knock. Appears to be a bad rod bearing. I have Seloc manual for reference. My questions are, the lower engine cover appears to be one piece, is there any trick to removing it to access the powerhead mounting bolts? Is it absolutely necessary to use the special alignment tool when tightening the connecting rods? If a rod bearing fails, does the crank usually get damaged like an automotive crank? Thanks for any help.
