95 Force 40 HP dies at W.O.T.

My 1995 Force 40 Hp dies at wide open throttle (WOT) Before it dies it runs a little rough. This rough running is not noticeable unless you listen very carefully. However, if I ease back on the throttle very slightly the engine will not die. I do not have a tach onboard so I don't know the RPM this is occuring at. I suspect it may be a fuel / air mixture problem but when it dies it starts right back up again. This tells me it is not quiting due to being to lean. (more air than fuel) Any suggestions.
