i am trying to rebuild a 95 200, after reading several posts from several people i am still unsure about my question. do i or do i not need a rod alignment tool to put this motor back correctly. that is, is it toaly necessary to buy one. if i do does anyone have one for sale or does anyone know where i can get one. thanks steve

I've read it works better without one, as long as you cannot catch a fingernail on the joint its good.

i've put many back together without one, as long as it doesnt catch a finger nail as mentioned before it will be fine...

Its not a machined joint, when originally made they are forged and machined as one peice, nitrogen frozen and cracked or snapped apart, the nitrogen makes the metal brittle like glass and they snap clean.

When you get the position correct its like molecule to molecule fit, far more accurate than a machined fit.

Guys that have tried the tool say they abandoned the tool and just did it by feel and it worked better.

i have put a few crossflows together without one and i never had a problem but i hear the rods on the newer loopers can splay outwards and create an aligning problem. this is talk and i have never put one together, yet. steve
