I have a '1995 Force 40 HP outboard I just bought. The original owner was taking the Tach out of it and shorted something out when he removed it. We replaced the ignition switch and kill switch and after 2 boxes of fuses, we got everything reconnected correctly(we think), except that the engine will not turn off when you turn the key Off. You need to pull the lanyard off the kill switch to turn the engine off. We have torn apart the service manual, and here is one area of concern. The Black/yellow wire from the switch box to the console has two wires. One is the main wire coming from the switch box and the other is a jumper. Now, at first we had the 2wire connector plugged into the ignition switch(I believe on the "I" pole) and the jumper going to the kill switch. In this configuration, it would blow a fuse every time you turned the key on. So we then put the 2wire connector on the kill switch and left the jumper hanging. Now it cranks right up, but the engine won't turn off unless the lanyard is pulled.
