'95 40HP Force Kill switch issue

I have a '1995 Force 40 HP outboard I just bought. The original owner was taking the Tach out of it and shorted something out when he removed it. We replaced the ignition switch and kill switch and after 2 boxes of fuses, we got everything reconnected correctly(we think), except that the engine will not turn off when you turn the key Off. You need to pull the lanyard off the kill switch to turn the engine off. We have torn apart the service manual, and here is one area of concern. The Black/yellow wire from the switch box to the console has two wires. One is the main wire coming from the switch box and the other is a jumper. Now, at first we had the 2wire connector plugged into the ignition switch(I believe on the "I" pole) and the jumper going to the kill switch. In this configuration, it would blow a fuse every time you turned the key on. So we then put the 2wire connector on the kill switch and left the jumper hanging. Now it cranks right up, but the engine won't turn off unless the lanyard is pulled.

Help!!!

The "I" terminal is ignition. You were grounding it causing the fuse to blow. On your switch there should be 2 "M" posts. The black/yellow goes to one of them and a ground to the other. This is what shuts your motor off.

Thanks Bill for the info! So should I hook the black/yellow from the switch box(2wire) to the 'M" post on ignition and the jumper to the kill switch or vice versa?

Also, the kill switch called for the Magneto(purple wires) to be plugged into the "M" slot. Since my grounding wire will be on one of the "M's" and the black/yellow kill wire will be on the other "M", do I put the Magneto on the "I"?

Thanks again for any help that you can provide!

Re: '95 40HP Force Kill switch issue

Ok...after going through all the forum pages I could find on this, here is what I have found so far:

My current Ignition switch wires:

black/yellow
Yellow/red
Yellow/Black
Red
Black
Purple

I also have a lanyard kills switch next to it that has a Black/Yellow jumper coming from other Black/Yellow wire on back of ignition switch and a black wire.

Here is what I think is correct for the ignition switch:

M=Black/yellow
M=?
I=?
S=yellow/red
C=Yellow/Black
B=Red

Now where do the Purple and Black leads go?

Thanks for any help!!!
