Quick question. Bought a really clean 94 700 waverunner III a few day ago. Took it to the lake yesterday for a shakedown. Ran great, but after a little while found that it kept dying. It would always start back up but would die again a short time later. Eventually I figured out that if the fuel selector was on reserve it would run fine, but when the selector is turned to ON it will eventually quit(a quick switch to reserve gets it running strong again).
It had a full tank of fresh gas & new Yama-lube oil,
so a couple questions:
1. Anyone seen this before?
2. Does the reserve portion of the tank use a different, filter &/or pickup system? (I'm wondering if the main may be clogged with something)
3. Is there anything in the actual selector valve/knob that I should look at that could cause the problem.
Thanks.

All the reserve switch does is divert the fuel suction from a tube that sticks down lower in the tank. It sounds as if your line is plugged or maybe your filter. I've had all the lines off before but I dont remember if the reserve tube runs through the filter or not. If the filter is not the issue then try taking apart the selector switch or blowing compressed air through it with all the lines off.

each pickup should run to the selector, then form the selector to the filter, then to the carbs.

if you have a problem, it is most likely in the line between the main pickup and the selector.
