I have a 94? Yamaha 150 TXRT that is missing at high RPMs.
Some facts ?
?Had the boat & motor for ~9 years.
?Integrated fuel tank of ~80 gals.
?~300 Hrs on the motor.
?Was missing at idle and sneezing to the point it would shut off. I had the carbs cleaned in January and it helped but it came back with the same problem. I later found a cracked fuel line going from the filter to the bottom carbs and fixed it. Sneezing problem seems to be gone and the engine idles fine. Now it has this high RPM missing issue.
?Changed primer bulb.
?Changed fuel/water separator housing and filter with all new parts.
?Changed spark plugs. Gapped them @10mm as per OEM.
?Changed the fuel filter inside the engine cowling last year.
?Runs at 4200 RPM max, not reaching the max power it once had. At max power, it runs at 4200 and it jumps to 4300 as it tracks the instantaneous power surges but returns to the 4200 range missing/surging. In other words ? power surges at full throttle are very rapid. No surging/missing evident at idle.

To me it seems like the engine has a restriction in one of the main jets or a bad spark that causes a cylinder to drop out and back at a fast rate (at high RPMs). I believe that the route to take is to troubleshoot the electrical to make sure it is not spark/ignition related before attempting to clean and refurbish the three carb assemblies.

Recommendations are welcomed!

Best regards,

Fuel supply can be tested , look at frequently ask question part of forum, could be sucking air also.
Testing ignition system can be done with the right equipment and a manual to see if all inputs and outputs are meeting specs at problem rpm

More than likely it is the carbs again , but how really knows until you check

what's your fuel pressure in hg between the filter #4 and the lp pumps.
are your lp pumps in spec? does the primer ball pump firm and stay hard?

Regarding the fuel pressure of the lp pumps - I would have to check that. I think it was checked in January but just for proper volume not hg. After fixing the leaky line, the primer bulb now remains harder than before. I do need to check the pressure of each of the two pumps. I have never looked into this tooling. What do I need to get?

hmm... if the ball is pumping firm and stays hard(no fuel leaking out of a torn lp pump diaphragm), i would look for trash in the high speed jets.
They are easy to check on that motor.

unscrew part#15, two on each carb and inspect/clean.

you could also spray a gas/oil mix into each carb throat at speed to figure out which one is lacking.

Good line of reasoning..... Just the troubleshooting tips I needed to keep me going after the solution(s). Will check the link and try to get to the hs jets this weekend. Thank You!

Everyone seems to be jumping into the middle of proper troublshooting. FIRST i would walk out to the boat, disconnect the inlet fuel hose from filter and pump a good quart of gas into a glass container...think you'll find your problem instantly. The clue is was cured and came right back...but if the gas is somehow good, I would second of all hook up a cheap vacuum gauge with clear hose(shows bubbles) from tank using a barb fitting to use the same fuel hose as engine runs on, bypassing the in-boat water/fuel seperator for now and see if you get over 4 inches of vacumn at w.o.t. My gues really is the tank...9 yrs is a long time....are you in salt water? Aluminum tank? The horrors...the horrors...good luck..check the gas. I've seen tanks cleaned out by professionals, that's all they do, ruin more gas again.
