94 volvo penta wont turn plz help

hello all

i just got a boat from my uncle only thing is it has been sitting for about 2 years

anyways i tried cranking it and i got one click from the starter but nothing else

changed the starter due to it being all rusty and stuff (old)

with new starter now i get a bunch of rapid clicks but engine wont turn

whats my next step (afraid engine being ceased)

i read to take a penetrator and load a bunch of it down the crab to reach the inside of the motor to see if that helps

how do i know if engine is ceased? if its in gear (shifter is bad i think and its wont og back and forth as it should) ??? what other things to look for

Pull the plugs and see if it turns. You can put a wrench on the alt pully or another. DON'T use the one on the harmonic balancer.

Then again if you snap that with the plugs pulled the engine is seized anyhow

As you are finding out, simply throwing parts at a boat is not a cost-effective way of troubleshooting. Rapid clicking is the starter solenoid chattering because it is probably not getting enough juice. Make sure the battery is fully charged and that it is actually a "good" battery. Have it load tested at your local auto store if you are not sure. Make sure all the battery cable terminals are clean and tight. That means disconnecting them "at both ends", making them shiny clean and then installing and tightening them securely. Now try it. Pouring penetrating oil down the carb will not get to all cylinders because some valves will be closed and some open. Remove the spark plugs and squirt the oil directly into the cylinders ONLY if the engine is actually seized. If its seized -- it's ceased! Sorry -- couldn't resist that.
