I am a mechanic (motorcycle) buy trade but have not had alot of time around boat engines. I am looking at it tomorrow and test driving anything they a known for to look out for? Re: 94 Searay Searayder ???

top speed and acceleration will tell you a lot about the health of the powetrain.

it should do If i remember well, 35-38MPH with only the driver and take a few seconds to get on plane (maybe 5-6)

If you can acess a feeler gauge, try to find out the clearance between the impeller and wearring. should not be over .040"

check the rideplate and make sure it's well seated and the gasket is in good condition.

do a compression test on the engine.

Check if it has the red stator upgrade (stators were prone to problems and mercury sold a new version, red)

they are nice boats but they don't have a lot of power. But they can be fun even with 90HP. And quite economical to run.

Be sure this is the boat you want and it is in good mechanical condition because parts are very expensive and gets harder to find. (impeller and wearing can make a 600$ bill) and you need a lot of stuff to re-assemble the unit (2 different loctite, 1 special grease, and another special lubricant, plus Quicksilver HI-per. oil, another 100$

Thanks for all the info. Turns out I was on the right track the floates wer out and he had some other things done. I went up and took a test ride in it today.
Speedo said 39 mph with the two of us in it and it got on plane fast. I wish I read your info befor I went up and bought it lol Seems to be a good boat. I am all new to this so if anyone has a manual on pdf I would love a copy.
Thanks again
