First off, sorry about all the questions...

I hope I am in the correct forum, my son of 17 wants to buy a 1994 14 foot sea ray .. sea rayder with a 90 hp sport jet, is this boat safe? Is it easy to swamp or flip?, one of my friends told me that he remembers someone telling him that if your at full throttle and let off the throttle to fast water will come over the back of the boat, is this true ? also a faster boat passing you there wake can turn this boat over or swamp it even hitting there wake straight on is this true ?will this boat sink if swamped? My son is a smart kid but I still have to worry a little !

Thanks in advance

There's Nothing Inherently Dangerous about that boat,..........

The concerns you express are a Possibility in ANY Small boat................

"will this boat sink if swamped?"
Nope.......
But,... Always wear a PFD...... ;)

If you're serious about the safety of your son, and speaking as a dad I'm sure you are, then enrol him without delay in a local boat safety course.

That will turn any boat into a good one!

And it will make the other boats around him safer as well.

Re: 94 sea rayder safety question

I have already sent him to a boat safety course, I agree that was a great idea, im just getting to many diff stories about this boat....

some people say that thing is near impossable to swamp GREAT BOAT, others very easy to swamp, my only problem is no one that tells me about the boat ever had one, it's the old a friend of a friend story, I would just like to hear from someone that owned one of these boats for there opinon on them....

Thanks very much for the replys !

I own the very same boat, and I dont see how you could ever swamp it.

And I drive it pretty hard.

You can turn the wheel all the way at top speed, and it wont do a thing.

I have been in 1-2 chop in the bay and never had a problem.

This boat is very safe.

Now, the sport jet 90 has some reliability issues. The ignition system can give problems, but if he can turn wrenches, he should have no problems. The parts are relativiely inexpensive.

Ken
