Last year, I had the motor, carbs, rebuilt, new fuel pump and put 5 hours on it and ran up to 50MPH.Everything was great. First time in this year, won't go past 15 to 25 MPH tops. You can tell it wants to, as it jumps forward, like it's ready but nothing. I made sure the check valve was good, put in new plugs, new gas but each time the same thing. Comp. was checked and I think he said 160 + in each. I even took off the gas cap, while going down the river and no change. Some people are telling me it;s the caps on the plug wires and others are saying clean the carbs. Would Jeff or Rob know what I should do or anyone else for that matter, I just see you guys answering alot of questions and I'm new here and don't know everyone yet. Thanks so much for any help anyone can give.

sounds like fuel issues to me, I know what I do to see if it isn't getting enough fuel but it is a bit tricky, remove the air box cover and the seat, run the ski with the seat off and as it boggs down give it a shot of starting fluid, if it dies it's getting too much fuel if it accelerates for a few seconds it is starving for fuel.

Would the carbs be gummed up or might have gotten some dirt in them from the winter. I was also reading, you told someone to switch to reserve. Thanks for your input. Going crazy and my son is begging me to ride.

the problem with older sea doos is the fuel lines get all crudded up, the clamps leak air in the lines, the internal carb filters get clogged, the fuel switches go bad and either allow air in or restrict the fuel flow, and if the fuel sat in the tank for more than 3 months even adding fresh fuel may not get it where it needs to be.
the plug tips will tell you if it is not firing, but that isn't a common issue with sea doo it seems to be more with kawasaki.
try removing the plugs and lay them on a good grounded surface see what color the spark is when you crank the engine,, also the older kill switches are notorious for partially grounding out the coils if the lanyard cap is worn, look at the cap and if it's old they are inexpensive to replace.

Thanks Jeff, I looked close at my switch to turn the fuel on and off and noticed a crack in it. Took it off and the fuel was half on and half off, the cap was turning but the that was all. turned it on all the way and she ran up to 38 MPH. Should I get more out of a GTX 650. Thanks for all your help.

In a big 3 seater with a 650 Id say youre doign ok at 38. should be a little faster maybe 42-44 or so but unless you got a really modded ski youre not gonna get to 50.

I suggest you bypass that switch and see if it hits mid 40's like it should,, sea doos will run slower and slower with fuel issues, yours seems a bit slow if it has the 80 hp engine with 2 carbs it should hit around 45 with only one rider

install a fuel line from the fuel pump directly to the hose fitting on the fuel tank marked R E S look close though because there is also one marked R E T, that one is the return line conector and fuel will not be picked up from that one

I do have the same year model SeaDoo with your have, How much oil (1 Gal.)does SeaDoo take for Gas (How many tank?)? The reason i'm asking is my SeaDoo from the new 1994 to now I have use only 5 Gal as of now about 1/4 gal. left on the tank. of oil and I did use the seadoo alot in summer and I empty about 2 to 3 tank of gas per a week and the Jetski are still strong never have any problem what so ever
But my new 04 Yamaha Waverunner 4 tank (18.5Gal) with 1Gal of oil

variable oil pumps only use oil if you ride hard at w o t// at slower speeds they use a lot less so it really depends on how you operate the engine,, if it aint broke don't fix it.

I would replace the valve if it hasnt already been done. The rubber seal inside has a tendency to block off the complete fuel passage due to the seal/corrosion on the valve..And judging by you saying your cap has cracked I'm guessing that the valve is hard to turn which made the cap crack...Seadoo dealers keep stock on these due to the amount they use..
