I recently bought a boat and have not ordered a manual for the motor yet ....It start's great and idles great ...It's peeing like a race horse..
I have owned smaller engines, and have friends with smaller engines, and the water that the other motor's are peeing at idle get's luke warm ... My 225 is getting hot very quickly..
I'm not sure what temp setting the thermostat's are suppose to be ....If this motor is peeing very well, why is the water that it's peeing not cooler ? .... Would I do damage to run WITHOUT thermostat's for this time of year ? .... I know if it were cooler water temp's , I would not consider this ...What is the thermostat that I should be running in this motor ? .....This is my first Mercury ...
Thanks to all ......Sincerely, Jim

Re: 94 Merc 225

Hi there,

1) The thermostats on this engine are needed.

2) The water for the tell-tale taken off after the t-stats (it will be warm 143-deg.).

3) Why do you think its getting hot? Is the horn going off?

4) If the boat/engine is new to you and you dont know it's history you might want to start by doing some of the maintenance items so you have a starting point. impeller, filters, lower unit oil etc.
