94 Force 40hp stator

I've got the stator off a 94 Force 40hp. I was wondering if there is an easy way to test it. The stator is black. Someone said the black ones go bad and there was a recall on them before. New ones are red. I'm just wondering how to tell this one is bad? Lonewolf helped me alot. Can he do it again? I got all his emails. Anybody?

black old red new I got a black one my motor is 1999 120 force still works

My books says this thing has CDM ignition system. Stator output to pack 100 volts with DVA meter at cranking rpm. 200 volts with DVA meter at idle rpms. Trigger output 0.2/2.0 volts at cranking rpms. 2.0 volts at idle rpm.

TAKE A OHM READING ON STATOR HAS TO BE 600 TO 850 IS ANOTHER WAY TO CHECK STATOR. CHECK OUT www.seilermarine.com for best price .black stators were problems for merc. red stators are just expose windings and are made by CDI WITH 2 yr warrenty

Lonewolf, thanks for the help. I did order the stator from Seiler Marine. The price was good. The stator showed no continuity on the blue to blue/white side and 97 ohms on the red to red/white side. Seiler said it would be good to replace the stator anyway it checked out, because of the problems with them. Thanks to everyone for the help and especially Lonewolf. I'm waiting for the stator will advise after I get and install it.

Open on blue to blue white stator wires is the typical failure.

Thanks,<br /><br />Now I feel more at ease about buying the new one. I wasn't sure if the old one was bad or not.
