94 Evirude 150 Rectifier

Just recived new rectifier for my 1994 Evinrude 150. when I went to put it on the motor I found the old one has a purple wire attached that the new rectifier does not except. I have checked with the parts dealer and they say that is the correct replacement for that item. I had one guy tell me to leave off the purple wire but I dont know what that runs if anything and should I track it down and completely remove it or just cap it. I have had so many problems with this motor I do not want create another one.

Secure it out of the way the rectifiers no longer uses the purple wire. Make sure it is capped because there will be 12 volts on it when the key is in the on position.
