 HORN BUZZER IS ALARMING OVER 1800 RPM'S. BELOW 1800 EVERYTHING IS FINE. HORN ONLY ALARMS WHEN INCREASING THROTTLE & CONTINUES UNTIL LOWER THAN 1800 RPM'S. COULD THIS BE A HOLE IN THE VRO PUMP DIAPHARM?

Re: 94 EVINRUDE VRO PUMP PROBLEM

1994 model motors use 4 different alarm horn sounds: a short beep every 40 seconds = low oil in the reservoir, rapid on/off beeping (1/2 second on, 1/2 second off) = no oil delivery at the vro pump, constant sound = overheat, and, on V6 & larger motors constant sound at high throttle settings = fuel restriction. What alarm are you hearing and what model engine do you have??

-John

Re: 94 EVINRUDE VRO PUMP PROBLEM

HI JOHN, THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY. I HAVE (2) 175HP OCEAN PRO'S V6'S ON MY GRADY WHITE.
I'M GETTING THE STEADY ALARM AT HIGHER RPM'S. I HAVE OIL IN THE 3 GALLON TANK. THE ALARM DOES NOT CHIRP EVERY 1/2 SECOND OR SO. IT'S STEADY. I DID A TEMP. CHECK ON BOTH MOTORS BY SWITCHING WIRES ON THE GAUGES & THEY ARE BOTH RUNNING ABOUT 160 DEGREES AT IDLE, THEN DROP TO ABOUT 100 WHEN MOVING. I WAS THINKING IT COULD BE THE FUEL FILTERS OR VRO DIAPHRAM. ANY IDEAS? THANKS ALOT :p

Re: 94 EVINRUDE VRO PUMP PROBLEM

D/P-

Sounds like the fuel restriction alarm to me. I would start by servicing the fuel filters on each engine's fuel bracket p/n 433190 (you'll also need gasket and o-ring p/n's 327270 & 124369). Also replace any fuel/water seperating filters in the boat.

If the problem persists, its then time to hook up a vacuum gauge (tee-in) to the fuel lines and figure out where the restriction is. Vacuum should not exceed 4 in.hg. at any time.

-John

Re: 94 EVINRUDE VRO PUMP PROBLEM

HI JOHN, THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR MESSAGE. I THINK THIS MIGHT BE VERY SIMPLE. NOW THAT YOU MENTIONED THE LOW FUEL ALARM AT HIGH RPM. I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT FUEL RESTRICTION PROBLEMS. IM GOING TO REPLACE THE INLINE FUEL FILTERS, GASKETS & O-RINGS & GIVE IT A TRY. I WILL ALSO CHANGE THE FUEL HOSES & PRIMER BULBS, JUST TO BE SAFE.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR MUCH NEEDED HELP. I WILL LET YOU KNOW THE OUT COME SOON. :p :p :p
