I have a 94 454 OMC King Cobra engion and drive.
Couple of questions:

1. Planning on replacing both the engion and carburetor fuel filters. The boat is well cared for but I believe both are original. Any tips / things to watch out for? I am very much a novice.

2. Last year I thought it was running a little rich towards the end of the year. I was thinking I just needed to tune the fuel to air mixture but my carberutor specs say I have "fixed main fuel jets." I am not sure if this means it is not tuneable outside of idle RPM. Any suggestions on addressing the rich fuel issue I experienced towards the end of the year?

GREAT FORUM!!!!! Thanks for the help!!!

Fuel filter replacement is not difficult, but I suggest that you get an OMC shop manual for your engine, they are still available and pretty cheap (~35 or so) and are much better than the aftermarket ones. See if you can find an OMC dealer that will order one for you, it is very detailed and easy to follow. I just got one for my 88 4.3 last summer.

Agree with Lou C, nothing beats having a manual to refer to. And do not trust any person who says they can turn a wrench and don't need a manual!

Mike.

Thanks for the help. No insight on the carburetor fuel filter? Should I leave it alone?

Re: 94 454 OMC Maintenance?

Well on mine I changed the water seperating fuel filter (the one near the fuel pump that looks like an oil filter). I haven't done the carb fuel filter yet, the OMC manual says to do replace both seasonally. Mine is a Rochester Quadrajet, I recall from years back having a car with that carb (1975 Olds 350) that they can be hard to remove, I think that we had that car until it was about 14 years old and never replaced it.......
