I have a 1993 Yamaha 9.9 I use for a trolling motor. It came with the boat I bought used. I noticed a half moon crach on the lower casing. It is located on the back of the shaft casing. I was told by a marine mechanic this was caused by salt water. He said I needed to replace the casing which would be around $500. Any suggestion?
<br /><br />If Iv seen it once I seen it a hundred times. You have corrosion between the bearing carrier and the case.. Just run it Its not going to hurt anything because its behind where the oil is..It just looks like heck!! The worst case is you will have to replace it. Or have a prop shop weld it if it bothers you.<br />You got to love those saltwater motors...
