Check your ignition switch. In the run position see if you have power at the purple wire on the switch. If you do, follow that purple wire to the engine.
Do the instruments come on?

I have checked power at the ignition and every thing is about 12V in the run position and all the instrument lights work.

Did you have 12 V on the purple wire on the coil?

Yes there is a purple wire on the coil it is 12V power input. I checked it in on position and I got 0V. Have also checked the coil resistance against the Seloc specs and it is fine.

Ialso trced the purple wire back to the engine harness. It then splits(purple) to the starter relay lead that has a small black piece in the line that then goes to a brown wire on the relay.

Re: 93 Volvo-Penta 434A 4.3L won't start.

That black thing is a resistor that lowers the voltage going to the alternator. Doesn't have anything to do with your problem.

In your first post you said you didn't have power to your coil, then in post #5 you say you have power on the purple wire........ So you do have power to your coil.
Did you actually mean you don't have spark going to your spark plugs?

I have power at the purple wire on the ignition switch but I don't have power at the purple wire on leading to the ignition coil. Sorry for any confusion.

Time to work your way back from the coil the main harness connector.
Check to see if you have power to the automatic choke coil with the ignition in the run position.
Does your boat have a kill switch with a lanyard on it? Is it on, if it's on, is there power to both sides of it? If it goes bad, it kills the power to the ignition.

Re: 93 Volvo-Penta 434A 4.3L won't start.

Don S checked power at automatic choke and got 0V with ignition in run position. I do not have a kill switch. The boat is a 93 25' Crestliner Eagle Cuddy Cab. I have taken all the thermal insulation all the way to the main harness connector so it shuld not be a problem to check any thing. Thanks for your help so far. The Selco manual only helps so much.

Somewhere between the engine and the ignition switch you have either a broken wire or a bad connection in the purple wire. The first place I would check would be the round harness connector at the engine.
Disconnect it, On the engine side check for continuity between the pin for the purple wire on the plug and the purple wire on the coil.
Also check for 12 Volts on the helm side of the harness.

Re: 93 Volvo-Penta 434A 4.3L won't start.

Don S thanks for the advice I found my break in line in between my ignition and the engine wire harness. I recently replaced all the flooring and several other pieces of wood, and I think I drilled through the wires. I don't have time to put it all back together and retest it. I am on a midnight shift. I will inform you if this solves all my issues again thanks.
