93 Volvo 570 Timing Procedure

Enroute to fixing another problem, I need to time the '93 Penta 570 (carb 350 Chevy) inboards in our Chris Craft. These engines have electronic distributors. The electronic Delco in our other boat need a shunt to time. I have the Volvo Owners manual and Workshop manual for the engines which make no mention of a timing shunt, or of a procedure for that matter. Just the technical timing data.

Do I need a timing shunt? Is there another manual?

On a related note, the selection of Volvo manuals is pretty thin, And I've seen fairly negative review on the Seloc/Clymer manuals here. Any suggestions on a better reference?

Thanks in advance for any help.

That engine has a Prestolite BID distributor in it. No shunt required.
Best manual you can get is the Volvo OEM service manual. It's not a Step-by Step manual like Mercruiser, but it's better than the aftermarket manuals.

Thanks Don S. In fact I got the Workshop Manual I have from marineengine.com. Is the Parts manual worth having? I've been using the Penta parts schematic from marinepartsexpress to get part numbers.

No need for the parts manual.
You can also go up to the top of this page and click on Volvo Penta parts and get better part diagrams.
