The cover on my '93 9.9 evinrude won't latch when pushed down. It seems like the latch is not going far enough down into the housing. The latch also does not have any detents that look like they can grab anything in the motor housing. What am I missing here? Any ideas? Is this a normal latch replacement?

Have a look here and maybe you will spot the problem. Make sure it is in the unhooked position before you place the cover on. Other than that..............maybe post some pictures. Best of luck. Rick.

On the list for Evinrude there is only down to a 90 size engine. Nothing smaller than that. Looked at the same year Johnson and they have a rotating hook latch to hold on the cover. The Evinrude is more of an bypass latch that should have hooks that go into detents and hook in.
I will have to post a picture of the design. I can't find any parts breakdown for the engine online.

Kevin. Try again. You may need to scroll down but the 9.9 is there. Rick.

Work is really killing me. I was opening 03 list instead of 93. Found it and it looks like the spring latch on the engine side of the cover is missing. I ordered one and will see if it fixes the issue.
