93 Johnson 60hp 3 cylinder 2-cycle

Does have a list of Alarm codes or where I can get them.
Here is what?s happening. At a slow speed of trolling speed I am getting a beeping, it actually sounds like a chirp; the alarm is sounding at a very fast frequency giving it a low volume ?Chirping? sound.

  • So at idle: No Alarm.
  • Very slow: No alarm.
  • Slow to med-slow: Alarm is Chirping
  • ? or ? throttle to full: no alarm

I have been keeping an eye on my oil, never let it run out and it seems to be getting consumed in an appropriate manner.

Any information would be great.

I think I've heard that before. A low volume chirp is not a valid alarm tone. Assuming you have the correct ignition-on beep when turning the key, two possibilities come into my mind.

1) A bad oil tank level sensor. I'm not sure about the '93 model, but normally the oil tank sensor generates a short beep every 20s...40s when the level is lower than 1/4 (Low Oil Alarm). Maybe you're close to that level and you get the alarm when the boat is just before planing. Disconnect the oil tank sensor to verify that (bullet connector to tan wire on port side of the engine).

2) Dithering battery voltage. When the voltage is rising and falling quickly you might hear low volume versions of the initial ignition-on beep. A digital multimeter might be too slow for this to measure, so try to add an electrical load of some amps (eg. bulb position lights, cooler, searchlight, VHF radio transmit etc.) and hear what happens to your chirp.

The VRO will generate rapid tones about 1/2 s on, 1/2 s off (No Oil Alarm), when there are not enough oil flow strokes compared to the motor rpm.

The temperature switch in the cylinder head will generate a constant tone when the head is too hot (about 200F).
