I have found alot of useful info on this site where others have helped others. Now, I need help. My 225 has no spark on any cylinder. I have troubleshot and eliminated the kill circuit using the SELOC manual. The charge coil resistance is slightly high ( 950k vs 725-925 in book ) However the charge coil voltage is low ( 85V at both brown/ brown tracer plugs ) according to book min is 130v What should it be normally if 130v is the MINIMUM? I saw one post where it was 305v. Is that more normal. Last year this engine had a rectifier ( for sloppy tach signal ) and a new CDI power pack put on it ( for hard starting ). All done by the best shop in town.
Also the power coil ( orange/ orange tracer ) had 15v.
And the yellow / yellow gray had 3.2v on it.
All voltages read with Fluke DSM77 multimeter, with the plugs that I'm checking disconnected as I checked them and engine cranking with two good batteries. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated....Art

Did you disconnect the kill wires at the powerpack or with the red plug disconnected?

Please click on the thumbnail and take a look at SB 2285.

Art, Did you disconnect the S.L.O.W and shift assist wires at the power pack? Both kill spark to 3 of the cylinders. Also, there is a (yellow-red??)wire that runs from the starter solenoid (small primary terminal) to the power pack. This is to supply voltage to the power pack when cranking. You might check it's condition. Other than that I think you should get an OEM Manual. These manuals have troubleshooting flow diagrams.

Re: '93 225 Ocean Runner has no spark

All testing was done with the key in the on position and using a clip-on remote start switch jumping from the positive battery cable to the yellow/red terminal on the solenoid to spin the motor.
I cleared the kill switch several ways. One was by disconnecting the one-pin amphenol connector on the rear top of engine. The other was by finding the blk/ylw going to 'M' on the keyswitch and reading it to ground. First it read clear with the lanyard in place, then it read to ground with the lanyard removed.
I have read power on the yellow/red wire at the power pack while I cranked the motor.
I have not identified any S.L.O.W. wiring at the powerpack.
Hope this clears up any questions...Art

First of all, the voltage reading are supposed to be taken with a Peak Reading Volt Meter. This type of volt meter reads the AC voltage from peak to peak. Most standard volt meters read the average voltage therefore, will give you a lower reading. I suspect your Stator is good. The most common component to go on that type of ignition system is the optical eye. To eliminate the rest of the system, disconnect the port side plug off the power pack This has the Quickstart, S.L.O.W. and kill circuits) and using your button starter on the starter solenoid, check for spark. If you still have no spark, the the eye is the likely culprit. The Eye can be tested using an OMC Ignition analyser designed for that ignition system.

Thanks for the info. My Fluke is a PRV. That's why I was asking what the voltage is normally. I'll read it again with another meter when I can. I'll disconnect the S.L.O.W. plug and check again. Probably not 'til next week. work calls...Art
