New to the forum... Have a 2 part question

Had the boat out the other day... put her in the water and went to take off and the oil alarm came on... had to manually refill oil tank on the motor. why does the tank refill with manual switch but doesnt work off of oil sensor???

after the tank was full started her up again and the motor was running kind of ruff.. had a rubbing sound almost like the motor wasnt getting any oil. after a little head scratching the motor started to smoke like all the sudden it was getting oil again.. took off and seemed to run fine. did happen one other time but other than that it was good. any ideas???

when the low engine oil tank alarm triggers there is enough oil left in the engine tank for about 15 minutes.
most likly either the engine oil tank switch failed or the remote tank switch failed or lost connection.
do some fourum searchs on precision blend. your engine also uses the trim sensor to allow automatic transfer, does your trim gauge work?

Re: 93' 150 Pro-v Oil Problem

didnt know the trim guage would affect oil transfer... no the trim gauge doesnt work. bought the boat a few months ago. the yammi didnt originally come with the boat so they must not have hooked it up. has yamaha gauges and the original too. wich one should i use for the trim?

any idea about the motor running rough with the rubbing sound... what would cause the motor to stop getting oil then start up all the sudden?.. engine tank was full at the time. thanks

Re: 93' 150 Pro-v Oil Problem

wont start and stop getting oil. you simply cant go by ex smoke.
pump is gravity fed and mechanically driven and works or not.
dunno what the noise is.
but like I say when the alarm sounds the engine oil tank has about 15 min of oil left in it before its toast.
check the resistance on the trim switch. I dont have any antique manuals at the house so I cant say from memory but I have posted it over the years.
the trim guage has nothing to do with it,its the trim sender input to the ECU that does.
however if you had the trim guage and it worked we would know the sender is working.
the yamaha digital tach has the trim function ,its on the right hand side and the bars move up and down with trim angle.
if the ECU sees excessive trim angle it inhibits automatic oil transfer, manual transfer can still be used,
NEVER NEVER EVER remove the engine oil tank switch and pour oil in it without first fully draining the tank and retrieving the screen to oil tank seal.
any debris on the tank bottom falls into the pump when the screen is removed.
if the seal is in the tank it can be shoved into the oil line on reinstallation of the screen and shut off oil to the oil pump.
