Still new at all of this but feeling my way around...
Inherited a 92 Renken, replaced the 650 holley street carb for an appropriate Rochester Qjet. That was easy.
Thanks to TheCaptnKen, I took apart the lower unit, cleaned up the whole thing so my shifting problem should be history.
I was cleaning up the mess in the bilge (previous owner was a real slob apparently) I found one of the core plugs...sure enough when I ran my hand underneath the manifold...nothing there but the hole...wth?????
I know from research they just don't pop out. Freeze is unlikely since the boat spent most of it's life in Florida and the last two years in coastal NC where the last time it froze was before I was born...and that was a while ago!
So now I am worried about the darn thing having overheated?
Gonna go back to it tomorrow and check on the oil...cracked block maybe?
Hoping I didn't inherit a 3000 lbs anchor, I have already spent cash on drive cable, new carb and ordered a ton of fabric to redo the upholstery...would be a bummer to get stuck with all that stuff.
I should have mentioned that with the mickey ears, the boat cranked right up and idled smoothly.
If I find no evidence of a cracked block (fingers crossed), should I just buy a new one, add sealant and hammer it in?
