I have a '92 Force 150, about half the time the starter seems to hesitate for a second, is it on a compression stroke and a little harded to turn over? it does start every time.

Being that you have a multi (5) cylinder engine, it is always on the compression stroke of 2 cylinders.

Loose connection, bad ground, weak battery, aging starter, etc.

Could be the shaft at the top of the starter just needs a drop of wd-40.

I would have to agree with roscoe. My older 135 evenrude use to do the same thing. Weak battery and lose conections are the best place to start.
