I have a new sending unit with the attached wiring harness that I am planning on installing on my 92 I/O Four winns Cobra outdrive. There is a little rubber boot/gasket that I believe is used to keep water out of the engine compartment. My question is; Does anything have to be removed other than the old sending unit to install this? I took a quick look with the outdrive trimed all the way up before I bought the part and really couldn't see where it passes through. I am planning on using the boat this weekend and don't really need the trim indicator, so I don't want to get into a big job and end up at a dead end if I can avoid it.

Re: 92 Cobra Trim indicator wire route

Ahh yes, that was pretty vague. It's the 3.0 in a '92 Four winns freedom 180. I've taken a closer look and while I can see where the wire passes through the outdrive and stern wall, and I can reach the gasket/plug with my fingertips with the trim in the down position, I certainly cant get a good grip on it. To my untrained eye, it looks like I would have to remove the whole outdrive?! If that is the case, I think I may have a boat with a new trim indicator sending unit....in the box. Any hints or tips would be appreciated.

Re: 92 Cobra Trim indicator wire route

I used a long skinny screwdriver to push out the old one, then fished the new one through transom and had my 3rd hand pull the wires at the same time I pushed on the rubber seal into position, I had to use a plumbers mirror to see exactly how it went through the transom adapter. The hardest thing is just reaching it, I didn't have to take remove anything at all, other than the old one.
