I'M TRYING TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP ON THE MOTOR.<br />I HAVE REMOVE THE 3 SCREWS HOLDING THE LOWER UNIT ON BUT CAN'T GET IT TO DROP OFF. DO I HAVE TO REMOVE THE PROP SHAFT, ETC. BEFORE IT WILL COME OFF??? NEED TO HURRY. FISH ARE BITTING.

I just serviced an '86 8 hp - and double-checked the '92 parts book - There are only 3 bolts holding it on, 2 from below and 1 from above (in front of g/c). The '86 I serviced did not want to come off either. CAREFULLY pry from the thickest part of the housing, it should come down. If it is not loose enough to get a pry into, use a RUBBER mallet and give it a couple of GENTLE whacks on the thickest part of the gearcase housing (back side). Do NOT whack the anti-ventilation plate!!!<br /><br />-John
