92' 70hp Force, after stator and fuel pump replacement, still cuts out at high speed

Work so far, new plugs, stator, fuel pump (diaphragm) and new used fuel pump body to rule out check valves, needle seat and carb bowl clean, replaced bulb, line, checked out tank and vent, good gas.. Runs great when it runs, but, at speed, it cuts out, across the board, not single cyl. miss. and floods the engine as plugs are wet if I push it. I thought high speed stator winding (red). And with the new CDI stator, the motor is stronger and ran longer.. The new stator helped but something else is going on. I ordered a new trigger. I suppose because I can get the flywheel off again in short order.:)

I disconnected the yellow wires and the symptoms remained. The battery is charging when it runs, so maybe its not the regulator.. I found a funky but working ignition fuse at the battery. I bypassed it and still symptoms.

Any advice is appreciated. I want to get this motor back to reliable. Bought when new. It has not been used too hard. This forum has helped me in this fix to date.

Thanks, Mark

Make sure your fuel tank vent is not plugged and the primer bulb is not bad. Primer bulb has a check valve that sometimes goes bad causing fuel delivery problems under certain conditions.

Look at the trigger wires where they go under the flywheel. Sometimes they rub against the block and the insulation gets worn off and it shorts out when the throttle is moved to a certain position. Trigger assy. is connected to the throttle tower shaft so it moves to advance or retard timing with throttle position.

Thanks for the input. I have replaced the fuel bulb and checked the vent, also ran with the cap loose. I have not checked the timing but I will. Nothing was changed tho. I will install the new trigger and try everything again. I go out to Sun Up Bay on CouerDAlene Lake so if you see an 17' ft. Maxum with the cowling off, that'd be me;)
I am hope the trigger shorts when advanced... Cheers

When you replaced the stator obviously you disconnected the timing tower from the timing shaft connected to the advance trigger plate so yes, timing needs to be verified or set again.

Thanks, I will check the timing. I have never timed this ob, use the light on no. 1 and ground the other spark leads, bypass kill switch and at full throttle 28 degrees, turning motor over? I did not disconnect the timing tower but I will because I will replace the trigger. Is there a pdf manual for this motor? I search for timing posts. Thanks . if there is an easier static way to verify, that would be great.

You do not bypass the kill switch instead you bypass or jumper the neutral switch. The reason being because the control lever is in full WOT position, it means the neutral switch is open hence the starter will not engage.
