We have done a rebuild on a 4.3 that hyderolic becuaced of the flappers missing. any ways my shop put the motor in and we are not getting spark. we have check all the ovey thing /kill switch,oil pressure sender, Now at the coil we are getting 9.4 volts and the coil is getting verry hot? the safty swicth is pluged in, we replaced the eye in the dist. We are also get a verry week constint voltage from the coil but not enough to fire anything. We and test lead from the - side of coilk to Batt and still no change. Anybody have any thought before I go buy the ingition module. This has us baffled.

Thank you I have the same chart. Now in the middle of the flow chart it ask for o-12 volts at coil go figure we have 9.4 volts ??????

The chart does not say exactly what type of ignition it is for so the 9.4 volts you see may be a clue to an incompatibilty in what is installed in your boat, but that 9.4 volts sounds about right if the coil circuit has a ballast resitance wire. I would go on as if you saw 12 volts and see what else turns up.

1992 4.3LX was a Thunderbolt-IV ignition, no ballast resistors... The flowchart is the right one...

In the middle of the chart it says 1 to 12 volts, not 0 to 12volts... You have 9.4volts... Ask yourself this... Is 9.4volts in the range 1 to 12 volts? I think, yes.... so follow the chart down that path...

after dealing with this for more then the shops 1/2 day I changed the coil wires + to neg and- to pos and had spark... ?????? I looked on an oil jet boat we have in shop and decided to change them around it worked.

Sounds like you found a way to get out on the water long enough to get towed in.
