I just aquired a 1991 Yahama waverunner with the 650 in it. It turns over but never fires. Pulled the plugs and checked for sparke but none. I did accidently reverse the leader with my battery booster hooked directly to the leads (no battery) at first. Could that have blown the rectifier or CDI? The last person said it ran for them. I checked the fuse and it is good.

Where should I start first.

Thanks!

Ouch... I would stop in a dealer that has a good tech and ask them. Sounds like ya barbecued something. Those electronic boxes are just big expensive fuses...

check your lanyard switch and your kill switch and see if they are grounding out the ignition , try unplugging them and jump the solenoid to crank the engine over with the plugs out and see if they have spark,, also be sure the ground wire for the electrical box is in good shape and making a good ground.

You Will Not Burn Anything Out , Because The Cdi Unit Or Brain In All Waverunners Are Protected Againts That. What Youu Need To Do Is Check The Coil. The Coils Go Bad And Then You Get No Spark. That Is Where I Would Start.
