I have a 1991 yamaha V Max 150hp on a 18ft bass boat. When I take off trimmed all the way down, remote start beeping and all 3 little lights on gauge flash, if I keep on going, motor goes in "limp" mode and won't go over 2000rpm.
If I just trim motor up half way it's fine, but since boat will lean back a lot before plane, it will reposition motor and it will beep again. As soon as it release throttle, it will quit. In few words....I can't take off.
Oil reservoir is full and so small tank on top of motor. Water impeller is new and motor doesn't overheat at all.

Any hints on what to do ? Can I disconnect whole system and rely on filling oil manually ? If so which wire do I have to disconnect ?

Thanks guys.

you may have your motor trimed to high and it is over heating from no water when the boat starts to plane out

Nope, it's the other way around for me, motor is all the way down (back) to get on plane fast, then trim up to get faster speed. Motor gets water all the times, I can see "pee" from side and it doesn't overheat.

Solved the problem.
Since I bought boat used, I thought to keep using oil in tank.
Apparently it was a little "old" and too thick, oil pump had troubles pumping it into reservoir on top of motor and was marking low when motor was tilted back.
Replaced with new oil, cleaned sump, and now she runs like a top.
Remember, never try to "cut corners" or be too "cheap" (like me) trying to save few bucks.
