Finally......success. Destroyed my gimbal bearing 2 years ago on 4th of July, due to ignorance and neglect. The outer bearing race was in 3 pieces, bearings just laying in the bellows and a hole in the bellows. Removed and replaced the bellows and the bearing but couldn’t get the alignment correct to save my life.
Long story short, over time my engine mount adjustments had risen about 1/4 inch, which applied extra stress to the bearing, combined with my neglect the bearing finally gave up. I was extremely surprised that the engine actually needed lowering.....but that was the case. Soon as that was done, the alignment was like butter and we had the outdrive seated in 15 minutes.
