91 Merc shifter??

Ok replaced the trim/tilt switch on my 1991 115 merc controls the other day, may have taken things apart farther than needed but wanted to inspect everything. While putting it back togeather things shifted and out popped this little brass thing about the size of a pencil eraser. Have looked at several different diagrams and for the life of me can't figure out where it goes. I do know now what it runs, it contols the rpm's in reverse I'm assuming. Works well other than can't rev in reverse it's just low rpm and doggy when you give it gas. Not a huge deal but would rather put the little brass thing back in where it belongs. My question is where does it go??? Anyone have a link to the 1991 Quick Silver control???

Might be the cable retainer just a guess depending on what kind of cable your runing of course
