'91 Johnson o/b over heating & shutting down

My '91 Johnson o/b Tracker Pontoon boat motor is shutting down after 10 min of operation. It's really fustrating 2 different repair shops have proclaimed the problem fixed sent me the bill, then the same thing happens. When I take the boat back they can't fix it! Items replaced: thermorstat, springs, impeller and other parts. <br /><br />Ya'll have any ideas?

Does it shut down completely or only to app 2500 rpms?

Mr. Clanton,<br /><br />My 60 hp Johnson o/b will run fine until I get out to the middle of the lake and then at top speed it will shut down to 2200 (Idle speed) with the buzzer sounding.<br />I am getting good water discharge from the foot, but the foot is so hot that steam is coming off the housing. I have to shut down the motor and wait until it cools off before I can get back to the docks.<br /><br />I bought the boat new in '91 and it has been running great but this past year the problem developed. All the repair shop techs advised that there was a advisory bulliten put out on this engine a few years back. Any thoughts?<br /><br />Noticed that you are a AF Vet. Did you serve in Vietnam? Clanton will be fine. Cam Rahn Bay, Tuy Hoa,1970/71. If you are taking this to an OMC dealer, change dealers. When they replaced water pump, did they drill hole in top of block and relocate tattle tale hose, and is water comming out of tattle tale hose?

Clanton,<br />I think you are right about changing dealers...<br />I don't remember them saying anything about drilling a hole, I check my invoices.<br />I don't know anything about a tattle tail hose? I am getting good flow out of the back of the foot while under load!<br />Does the discharge hose have to have alot of back pressure to keep water in the engine and foot?<br /><br />Check out THE HISTORY CHANNEL now it's about ww2 airplanes.<br /><br />Chas

Did the motor ever run ok? The correct pn for the waterpump kit is 0432955, this kit includes different spring and cover for water bypass, and plastic nipple for service bulletin 2276 rev 1. Dont understand water from foot. There should be a hose on stb (right) side of lower engine cover, water should come out of this hose. Verify engine temp with temp stick , temp gum or temp probe. Motor set to high ?
