I am considering purchasing a boat with that type outboard on it. It is said that the VRO is disconnected. What is the VRO? Also, the engine has under 400 hours on it. how many hours can be expected before major work needs to be performed. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Re: 91 Evinrude 200 VRO

A VRO is a (OMC only) pump which draws fuel from the fuel tank and 2-cycle oil from the oil tank and automatically mixes them in the appropriate ratio. It then send the mix to each of your 6 carbs. Lower speeds require less oil ( I think its 150:1 at idle) and increases to 50:1 at higher RPMs. It has built in alarms to let you know when there is no oil eaching the pump. It is located on the port side of the engine and looks like 2 diaphram pumps back to back, kinda.

daaaaaa.. also if the VRO pump is disconnected, that means you have to manually mix the oil and gas - 16oz of TCW-3 oil to 6 gals of gas.
