i've finished the rebuild on my 91 evinrude 150 E150EXEIS and ready to set the timing. The manual states to use the OMC ignition analyzer to properly set the timing. Is there another method I can use so i don't have to purchase that piece of equipment?

Never thought about that before, but you can drop by and use mine here in Ma.

I would say no other way because of the method and adjustments and linkage.

DHP

How about I ship you my motor, you set the timing and send it back? Or maybe i could just go visit my local OMC dealer and buy one. Coin toss...okay, i'm heading out the door to unbolt the motor. Thanks for the offer DHP.

If the engine will start and idle, you should be able to use a timing light. The omc tool just make it easy, without running the engine.

The optical ignition system calls for the use of the analyzer. The flash from a timing light whould interfere with the system, just as running these engines in direct sun light with the cover off can interfere. I believe that analyzer is now in the $350 range.

you might find when using a digital CDI (blue) pack, you can now use a timing light! no need for the easy timer or factory tool.
