Hi All!

we just picked up our new Boat in Spain. It is in a optically nice condition - electrics need some work. Engines and drives are fine. It was out of the water for 3 Years. Gauges and instruments need a refit this winter - but most work.

The bad thing is, that our steering cable is frozen. We were able to disconnect it from the Hydraulic part in the back of the engine - but the core does not move a bit. Instead the entire cable moves when we turn the steering wheel.

Our mechanic who works on the boat just told us that he might have to pull the stb engine to get the new steering/cable into place. The boat has 2 merc 183 Diesel engines.

Does this really have to be done? I remember (long time ago) that this was simply a pull and rerouting job on an other boat i had.

Will he have to pull the engine?

thanks for all Help !!!

Mike

Were not able to see what the issues are but your mechanic might be correct. It may be possible to re-route the cable but the bend radius must not be increased in most cases
