Bought late November before ice. Drove boat before buying. Engine had surge at WOT. Compression tested all 6 - was good so I decided to buy it. The VRO is disabled and found a 438559 fuel pump tie strapped in. I figure the fuel pump is not capable of enough volume from what I have read. Is it feasible to add another 438559 in tandem like the old ones and if so how do you plumb the 2 together?
Thanks, Chris

Yes you are exactly right on this one!!!! Or you could just buy one from maxrules already good to go. BRP sells the VRO looking pumps that have no oil side also. If you are a DIYer, you can get two of those pumps in tandem to work, it just depends on how your air pulse fitting is set up.

No Title

Always confused me though, looks like it uses an EXTERNAL pulse fuel pump mounted to a BLOCK mount fuel pump, with the block pulse blocked off. I guess you could use two external pulse pumps if you blocked off one of the external pulse fittings.

First fuel pump kit is 90 degree engine, second is 60 degree.

What confuses me is what good is a second fuel pump if the pulse fitting is blocked off? The old VRO is still on the engine, maybe rebuilding the fuel side is a better way to go?

You certainly could do that!! If I were you Id take it apart and inspect it. It will cost you around $150 in parts to rebuild the fuel side in its entirety, while blocking off the oil side. You just need to be careful and check for cracks in the VRO before you even try and mess with it. If you dont have any nasty cracks (including the fuel in/out ports) then go for it. The older VRO's had their fuel fittings welded on, so if they are damaged or cracked, the fuel pump is useless. Just be aware of this before you start trying to throw parts at a lost cause.
