90HP Optimax New Impeller, No P stream, Overheat, T-stat & Poppet advice needed

Original owner of the above (about 5 years) and noticed no p-stream on trial run this year. Changed out impeller, second trial had a few dribbles come out that looked rather dirty and then nothing......overheat alarm soon after. When I hook to the flush hose (attachment) and run a stream into the engine, I get water out of the intake on the lower unit, nothing from the p-hole (unsure if I should be or not). Reviewing things online, I decided to look at the T-stat, which was a little dirty, but had movement to it. I have no idea on the poppet valve as to how it should be. There is a wheel of sorts on it that would not turn very freely. Not sure if that is how it should be or not. Plan on getting new t-stat and valve tomorrow and see what that does. Any thoughts on what I've done so far and where to go next if still no p-stream? Need to leave state with boat in one day so crunched for time......thanks!!

I cleaned up the thermostat and re-assembled. Worked on the p-hole line some more with weed whacker line air.......one or the other did the trick......thanks........
