I was thinking of buying a 90hp Nissan to put on a 17ft alum war eagle boat. Has any one heard any thing bad about this engine? I have owned a 25hp nissan for 4 years and a 25 hp tohatsu 4 years prior to that. Never had a minutes worth of trouble out of either one of these engines. Also how does it compare to other 90hp engines. One thing I should mention is we have a home town Nissan dealer. Where we live you see mostly nissan, mercury, & a few evinrude & yamaha.

Hi Jeffers,
Nissan and Tohatsu are the same motor by Tohatsu, the oldest jap motor maker. I have not heard anything bad about them. As long as your Deale is a good one go for it. I am a merc man my self, but like the way Tohatsu builds their motors.

...have fun...corm

Re: 90hp nissan

Thanks corm, I bought my first tohatsu from a merc dealer. He said the major diff was price, I bought the tohatsu for $600.00 less than what he would sell the merc for. I know what you mean about being a merc man, my neihbor is arkansas game and fish officer. He swears by merc, his fav saying is I LIKE BLACK. All I know is I put the two smaller engine tohatsu & nissan through hell & back and they never let me down for the 8 years that i ran them. I think I will decide on Nissan for the simple fact that the merc dealer wants me to pay $1000.00 more than the Nissan. will let you know how it goes. Thanks for the reply.
