I've been trying desperately to get my engine running right. It would not plane out. Wide open throttle 2500-3000rpm's. Thinking fuel problem I took carbs off and cleaned them. All components looked good. Flushed gas tank out and put new high octane gas in. Put new fuel line and fuel filter on. Cleaned and inspected fuel pump. All components look good. Water tested and still would not plane out. Hooked my hose to it at home and cranked it up and ran it. First day when I sprayed carb cleaner in TOP carb it bogged down. Sprayed in middle and bottom carbs, no effect. Next day it was the opposite. Bottom carb bogged down and middle and top, no effect. Then I cranked it up and idling about 1000rpm's, took top plug wire off, no effect. Took middle plug wire off, no effect. Took bottom plug wire off, engine shut down. Now with good battery and new starter it barely turns over, not enough to crank. Trouble-shooting with my shop manuel, manuel shows gas and oil paths as following; GAS- tank>fuel filter>automixing check valve>fuel pump> carburator
OIL- oil tank>oil filter>oil pump>automixing check valve>fuel pump>carburator. But there is no automixing check valve on my engine. Confused I'm wandering now if my engine is seizing up from not getting oil. Grounding plugs against casing they all show spark. Compression is good on all cylinders. Any suggestions?

Re: 90hp Nissan CONFUSION

According to your tests you are only running on the bottom cylinder. That means that your problem is either an ignition failure on the the top two, mechanical failure on the top two or a fuel feed failure on the top two. If you have compression anf fire that only leaves a fuel feed failure. But, t's more likely that you have a low compression failure or ignition failure than having a fuel feed error on two cylinders at the same time. I would go back and do the compression again and put in line spark checkers on the wires to see if you really have spark when the engine is running.

The check valves are small and placed inline...There is no reason that anyone would have to ever remove them.

Thanks very much for the reply. I will check compression again but I haven't been able to get an inline spark tester. Where can I get one. If I could only figure out what part or parts are bad I would replace them.

An inline spark checker can be purchased from any auto parts store or from Harbour Freight for around $4.00.
