Hello. I have a johnson seahorse v4 90hp that has been sitting since '98. I bought this boat from a neighbor who inherited it from a sister. Nobody knows much about it except that the neighbor says it was running at the time it stopped being used.
What should I do prior to firing the motor for the first time. It has been run in salt water. It appears clean and the flywheel turns fairly easily by hand except for the compression stroke.
Also, I cannot find the year of this motor. The best I can make out the model number is 090TL0NB. I went to a site http://www.marineengine.com/manuals/johnson/index.html# that breaks down the code but I still cannot get the search block to accept my number as a recognized code. Based on the info I found it could be C90TLCNB but this will not work either. The boat is an '82 Custom Craft 18'-19', open bow with walk through. (if anyone can point me to info about this I would appreciate it also)
I was told the motor was replaced, but maybe it was just rebuilt?
Thanks for any help!
Jeff

I believe the correct number to be C90TLCNB which would be a 1982. C being from Canada and the CN being a 1982 model.

If it has not been run in a while, I would replace the lower unit oil and impellor, and put some 2-stroke oil down the cylinders through the plug holes, and rotate the flywheel by hand a few times just to get some oil around those rings before you fire it off.

Thank you for the reply and info. Nothing I want more than to hear this thing hum when I finally get to turn the key.

Jeff

before fire off go ahead and pump the fuel tank, rebuild the carbs and replace the fuel pump. 6 years of sitting did nothing to renew the rubber parts.
do ther impeller and t-stats as well. you may wish to run a compression or leakdown test first.
good luck and keep posting
