I have a 90hp 1988 and it was in storage for 1.5yrs after i did the tune up until i decided to put the boat in the water. The motor started easely so i put it in the water and went fishing after two hours anchored i decided to go home but the motor did not start. I removed all the fuel from carbs and replace spark plugs but i still can not make it run I tried to started it with started fluid, I have disconnecteed the kill switch but no luck. I checked for fire on the spark plugs and only one spak plug is getting fire. people tells me that the problem, is the power pack some other say that the problem are the coils and the stator. I really dont wanna start changing good parts if is not necesary. ANY HELP PLEASE!!!!

Re: 90HP 1988 Mercury Starsting problems

Getting some spark indicates current from the stator is there but if it,s enough would be the question Assume for now it,s good and try swaping trigger wires to the good coil on the switchbox to eliminate a bad trigger. Then swaping coils to the good sector of the switchbox to eliminate bad coils although 2 going bad at once is unlikely. Then to be sure use the known good trigger wire and the known good coil on the seemingly bad sector of the switchbox to see if you get spark on these terminals, If not the switchbox diodes between the terminals is shot View attachment 174186View attachment 174187 Pictured is the bad sector i,m pointing at and added the trigger and coil wires to an old switchbox with good sectors to get fire to the plug
