90 yamaha waverunner won't accelerate

Hi

I just bought my first PWC, a 1990 waverunner 650. Put in a new battery and steering cable, filled her up with fresh gas. She started right up at the launch and cruised back to my dock at great speed. Rode her twice more and she ran great. An hour later I took my nephew out for a spin and she ran great, returned to the dock and tried to take my son out which is when the problem started. Now she starts fine and goes fine at slow speed. When I try to accelerate up on plane, the revs go way up but the speed stays at 5-10 mph and won,t increase. She doesn't "bog" in that the revs go way up and seems to be getting gas. There are weed beds in the lake which I may have gone through. Could the impeller be blocked up?

yep - sounds like you picked up some weeds and filled up the intake grate.

if it's in the water, shut it off and stick your hand under the ski and pull them out.

on land, you can roll it over - or crawl under the trailer and pull the weeds out.
