Does anyone else out there service their own water pumps, and have you noticed problems with the drivehaft keyway, or with wear in the the impeller keyway, or has anyone been given their used water pump parts from a dealer and noticed the keyway slot is slopped out while the impeller is still apparently usable.
The 90TLDI impellers are hard plastic inside, unlike merc or yamaha impellers that have a tight rubber sleeve that must be forced down over the driveshaft at the key, the 90 TLDI waterpumps just drop on easily, and they can move back and forth on the key. On the 90 TLDI the woodruff key in the drive shaft is small compared to other motor brands. The impeller is a sloppy fit on the drive shaft and on the key. On our 90TLDI's the water pump keyways on the shaft, and in the impellers, fail.
