After just 1hr of run time I had the 3 flashing alarm lights on my '08 90 TLDI, took it back to the dealer and he had to set the TPS. Was this a mechanical or electrical issue ? The motor seemed to run fine, I shut it down for about 10min. and when I started it back up the lights came on. have not had the chance to run it on the water since then but have run it on the hose and it seems fine.

Did the dealer set the TPS to begin with or did you install it yourself?

Re: 90 TLDI TPS adjustment ?

Guru, The dealer did the install, the mechanic told me that it had not been set. They are an authorized service center but don't sell alot of Tohatsu's. I have another ? for you. I have a 14x16p 4 blade stainless prop that I put on the motor and I get the "clutch dog rattle" pretty loud. I put on the prop that came with the motor and all is quiet. I don't want to damage the motor so I will keep the alum.prop on it. This is on a 17' boat that will be used on the shallow water flats so a good hole shot is needed. Any recommendations ? Thanks

Then going back to your original question, "was this a mechanical or electrical issue", is...Dealer install error. Anything other than a factory propeller is always something of a crap shoot. Some are designed to work across a very broad range of engine model types and have a less than perfect fit. Hence you can get a little chatter with one brand and a little less with another. It shouldn't hurt anything other than your ears, but here's some free advice. You don't need a 4-blade prop on that engine. Four bladed props are great if you bought some 4-stroke wimp outboard that doesn't have hole shot, but it's a gimick when used on the average 2-stroke. Just drop down to the next lowest pitch on a factory prop for better hole shot. The engine does not come with a pre selected prop. Your dealer received whatever pitch they asked for when they ordered the engine. Prop selection is trial and error so you need to select your prop based on what you have now and what you are trying to achieve.
