I have a friend who has a 1986 90hp mercury, he says the trim is going bad, losing lift or something, anyway he was told by a few people that they can't be rebuilt. Is this true? Where would you get the supplies to rebuild if you can? If they can't be rebuilt where can you get one for it?r

Re: 90 merc trim

scott, If the motor has two trim cylinders and the pump is mounted in the boat, there are rebuild kits available from Mercury. A special tool is required to install the piston back into the cylinder liner, after you install the new piston seal. Another of the Forum's members claimed to be able to grind down the unused end of the cylinder with a dremel. He said this eliminated the need for the special tool.

If it has some other kind of trim system, then I do not know
