What holds the water pickup tube in place?
1984 90 hp Yamaha ETLN.

I was cleaning out pieces of a disintegrated impeller and I think I poked a hole in the pickup tube, I have a manual but it doesn?t show me how to get the tube out so I can put a new one in.

Re: 90 hp Yamaha water pickup tube?

After numerous attempts and searches on the internet for a way to change the water tube. I finally got it, you have to take the mid-section off of the motor bracket then take the block spacer off. Once you get to that point the exhaust housing has to come off, it is held on by four 12mm. bolts. Take those out and lift it off and the water tube falls out.

To accomplish this, the powerhead and lower unit has to be removed, one heck of a big job to do. Just because someone neglected to do routine maintenance and change a $20.00 impeller and let it go to the point the it just came apart and clogged the tube, resulting in the need for a rebuild as well.

So remember to do you're maintenance, $20.00 preventive or $1,200.00 repair, either way it will need to be done.
