I have the new parts to fix my leaking seals. The rods are not pitted. I made a wrench to remove the caps, using a flat bar with four small bolts which protrude into the cap holes. Problem is that the thing won't budge. A mechanic told me to put a drift pin in one of the holes at an angle and strike it with a hammer until
I see the cap start to move, then use my tool to get it off. At this point , I'm a little hesitant to start beating on it. What if it gets so messed up it will never come off? Should I try it, or just spend the money and get a mechanic? Thanks for any advice you have to offer.

I like a penatrating oil called "PB" available at any auto parts store or wal-mart.

for re-assembly use permatex silver anti-sieze grease to avoid future problems.

mild heat ( mapp gass torch) can help but will ruin paint. piston must not be up or you will melt the piston seals unless you are replacing them anyway.

I have a used tilt only cylinder for sale ( single cylinder )
but I think yours is a tilt/trim ( 3 cylinders)
