OK i know that the playmate is an I/O But the engine is just a 90 hp laying on its side. 4 cyl 2 Stroke

First the engine has had one side of the head off for the last 10 ish years. Has had only 2 owners. THe man that had it fist said it dident seem to have the full power it should have. ( kinda makes you wonder then why not bring it back ) The second owner drove it around and agreed lack of power. Took it home and took the head off then realized that from the factory one piston is not connected. ( still had cross hach makings.) Then with the head off he Lost intrest. Closed the hatch and walked away. Then thought about selling the lower unit so he took that off. Then for some reson didnt sell it. So its laying there too.

I looked breifly at it today and there is rust on the cylinders but it dosnt look pitted. What is the chance that the 2 cylinders are still useable ?? Where could i get oversized pistons and rings ?

And i know i should have walked away from this but i couldent.(Its free :p) Im soposed to pick it up later in the week. And i know omc parts are hard to find. But its kinda funny that the last 2 "free" boats have the same motor...

Some how, I have a feeling this is a jet setup with an outboard powerhead, not an IO.
Moving this over to the J/E froum for engine problems. Sense you say omc parts are hard to find.

Might want to post a lot more info on engine year, type etc.

Not to shure how you got the vibe its a jet boat..? Its deffinetly not. Lower unit has a prop on it...

Please move this back to the original forum.

Thanks

You are having engine problems, the motor is an outboard mounted somehow onto an outdrive. Fine, but since you are having engine problems, this is the forum for it. The IO forums cover automotive type engines, which are not 2 stroke.

Yea iv read that before. I included the " rambelings" to help you get an idea of what shape its in.

I have no numbers yet, have to wait till he gets the junk outa it. And i get it home.

So for now as not to offend anyone here My only current question is....

Will a rusted cylinder wall clean up? There seems to no pitted areas on the wall.

Somehow, I have an awful hard time believing it left the factory without the piston connected. But whatever you say is ok with me.

But before you start looking for parts, best you tear it down and see what it really needs. It might have tossed a rod and wiped everything out.

Lemme give you a small hint: Don't use an outboard powerhead gasket on it. They look almost identical....almost. It will overheat and fry the pistons in a heartbeat. Ask me how I know.

The comment "it came from the factory that way" was from the guy who has it. Im gonna do a total teardown when i get her home though.
