I just bought a 90 hp merc. ob. I don't have the SN in front of me, but it is 'A17***X' I know that the first three digits are correct. The X's represent numbers that I can't remember. It is an inline 6 cyl. According to a manual that I looked at, the 1986 model numbers start at 'A9***XX' Did the 9 start over at 1 when it got to 'A999999'? That's the only logical conclusion I have come to.

ok, I have the sn. It is A175917. I did some research and found out that it could be a 1986. This is what I thought it was. Now, does anybody know where I can get new Mercury decals for this motor--and how much they cost?

Good luck on finding new decals, I think yours is close to or the last year for the inline 6 motors and if you can find them they are very expensive. Like a couple hundred bucks.

I have been looking for new ones for a 1979 140 and I have yet to find any, You can look at marine mechanics that have old engines laying around and maybe they might have the cowling set you are looking for.

Hope you find some. If you do, let me know were

wa.skier@verizon.net

Craig

Hi, if you go to e-bay and type in mercury in the search you might get lucky, If you watch long enough sooner or later they will show up there.

Just go to any sign making shop and they can print you some up anyway you want and for a lot less than originals.
